RED WINES

Gundlach Cabernet—At times this wine has Block 13 on the label and sometimes it does not.  It is from Sonoma, California.  It is heavy bodied with silky tannins. This wine has opulent juicy blackberry, cassis, and fig flavors laced with hickory smoke and vanilla.  It has a long, plush finish.

Mondavi Private Select Cabernet-Central Coast, California.  This wine is 79% Cabernet grapes, 15% syrah, and a small amount of Malbec, merlot, and petite syrah.  It has sweet black cherry and a dark berry fruit character.  It has velvety tannins and well integrated oak.  It has excellent depth and richness on the palate.  This wine would pair well with rib roasts, grilled steak, roast duck, lasagna, and flavorful hard cheese.

Sequoia Grove Cabernet- Rutherford, California.  This wine's vineyard is surrounded by towering sequoia grove trees, hence the name.  This wine is a deep red, black color.  It has intense notes of blackberry and cedar, black pepper, cinnamon, with slight hints of currant and crème soda.  It flows easily over the tongue and is silky and lush with a lingering note of cassis that goes on long after the wine is swallowed.  The 2005 harvest produced grapes with lower sugars from cooler temperatures meaning the alcohols are more in balance and the higher than normal acidity makes a more balanced wine with little manipulation. Wine and Spirits gave this wine a rating of 92.

Bonterra Zinfandel-Mendocino County, California.  The Bonterra vineyards are certified organic.  Last year the sales of all Bonterra products went up 183%.  This wine has flavors of blackberry and plum.  It has aromas of blueberry and raspberry.  We currently are out of this wine because it has sold out.  Our distributor has none and we are awaiting a new batch.

Mondavi Private Select Merlot-Woodbridge California.  This wine has bright aromas and flavors of smooth cherry, plum, and strawberry with hints of cedar, black olive, and spice.  It has fine grained tannins and bright acidity.  The wine's fruit flavors are enhanced with a hint of oak for roundness and complexity.  This wine would pair well with mushroom pizza, spaghetti Bolognese, grilled beef, and lamb shanks.  It has 88.5% merlot grapes, 9% syrah, and 2.5% other reds.

Dynamite Merlot-Sonoma, California. The producer of this wine had to blow up parts of the mountainside to make room for the vineyard with…you guessed-dynamite!  The labels are all hand painted by local artists and change periodically.  This is a low acid, high fruit wine.  It has flavors of black cherry, raspberry, and blueberry.  Aromas of dark chocolate and toast vanilla weave through the wine.  It has light ripe tannins and a lingering finish.

ConCannon Petite Sirah-Livermore Valley, California.  Vibrant fruit flavors of black cherry and plum are in this wine.  It is full bodied and yet has a mellow structure.  There are hints of vanilla and oak on the palate.  The finish on this wine is quite lasting.  This wine pairs well with red meat dishes. Tasting.com gave this wine 90 points.  It won awards at the Hilton Head Island Wine Fest and the Lone Star International Wine Competition among others.

Escudo Rojo-Chile.  This wine is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc.  It has the distinction of being from the house of Lafite Rothschild.  The wine has complex aromas of smoke, spice, meat, and black fruit.  On the palate the same smoky, meaty flavors come through.  This wine has hints of espresso, chocolate, and spice.  This wine would pair well with a horseradish encrusted filet or chocolate dipped canoli.

Marimar Estate Pinot Noir-Dona margarita Vineyard-Russian River, California.  This is a certified organic wine.  Six clones of pinot noir are blended for complexity and aged exclusively in French oak and bottled unfiltered.  Wine Enthusiast gave it 91 points!  Classic aromas of black cherry, forest floor, chocolate, and mocha with a flora note of violet and rose hips.  The oak is perfectly integrated with the fruit which carries on the palate.   The tannins are supple and the wine, intense and elegant, is sure to develop for many years.

On the palette the texture is rich and smooth with flavors of cassis and a hint of chocolate balanced with fruit and tannin.  These flavors are confirmed on the finish which is marked by rich ripe fruit and the impression of oak and spice. One reason why label knowledge is so important is that although this wine is delicious only the Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon Bench Hill Select and the Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch won ratings from wine Spectator of 92 and 93 respectively.

Francis Ford Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon-Alexander Valley, California. The color of this wine is dark rich mahogany. Wolfgang Gru-Vee-Austria. This is a blend of the Grunier andVeltliner grape.  This wine is the most popular white in Austria for the moment.  It has won awards in Europe.  It is a good compromise wine for a table where the party is divided between sweet and non sweet wines.  This wine pairs well with the "difficult foods" like asparagus and artichokes.

Stellina Di Notte Pinot Grigio-Italy. Stellina offers fresh fruit flavors of golden apple, melon, and kiwi accented by subtle tropical fruit notes and a hint of citrus.  The wine is delicate, pleasantly crisp, and has a well balanced acidity.  The finish is smooth and silky.  Pairs well with simple salads, fresh shellfish, and light pasta.

Trimbach Riesling-Alsace, France. Although Rieslings are by nature a sweet wine this one is ever so slightly dry.  It has a light and fruity taste.  Traditionally this type of wine would be served before a meal to prepare the palate for food.

Marco Negri Moscato D'Asti-Italy.  This is a dessert wine.  It has frizzante (small bubbles).  It is a sweet but not syrupy wine. I would recommend this wine with dessert, especially the marinated strawberries, or as dessert by itself.
